 Constructed in 1887, the Grainfield Opera House in Gove County is a prime example of 19th century architecture. Eight years after the town was established, Grainfield Town Company set out to build a structure that would provide storage on the first floor and serve as a meeting and opera hall on the second floor. Over the years, it housed a grocery store, harness shop and printing office. This two-story brick building with an ornate cast iron front was listed in the Register of Historic Kansas Places in 1979 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
